‘World of Adventure’ uncovers the treasures of Madeira

Looking for a remote destination that offers mountain biking, scuba diving, canyoneering and more? Madeira, an archipelago located southwest of Portugal in the North Atlantic Ocean, offers a wide variety of outdoor pursuits, making it a mecca for any outdoor enthusiast.

This week, “World of Adventure” explores Madeira, host to the Extreme Sailing Series and home to world-class scuba diving sites, extreme canyoneering destinations and stellar mountain biking trails.

The diverse set of weather systems that roll through the chain of islands allows for a multitude of outdoor activities, and the burgeoning city life provides all of the additional entertainment a traveler could ask for.

“We are a mixture of blue in the sea, green in the mountains and the people in between. Whatever your plan is, you can do it through nature here,” Sergio Jesus, president of the Madeira Sailing Association, says of the islands.
